Review: Clint Lowery

God Bless The Renegades

By: Kasey Carr

On January 31, rock veteran Clint Lowery released a distinctly impressive debut album. Regardless of previous familiarity with Sevendust, co-founder and lead guitarist Lowery’s solo project is not one to be ignored. Though only having been officially announced as recently as early 2018, this ten song album has been in the works for quite some time. For the material that God Bless The Renegades boasts, it garners praise for many aspects — but the album’s true shining quality is the raw emotion felt from beginning to end both lyrically as well as sonically.

Recorded in-studio with producer Michael “Elvis” Baskette (Alter Bridge, Slash) and with Eddie Van Halen’s son laying percussion tracks, it is no surprise that God Bless The Renegades is an overall solid record. With a fair dose of that familiar, Grammy-nominated Sevendust sound, Lowery sprinkles just enough of his own flavor onto this one to set it apart from the rest of his past work, all the while still providing a much appreciated shock-quality that is reminiscent of a swift euphonious punch to the face.

All ten tracks are very much worthy of a listen, but stand-out songs include: “Kings,” “Here,” “Silver Lining,” and the title track itself. Official music video for “Kings” is listed below.

Despite being no longer dominated by the forthcoming release of his debut solo record, Lowery is still very much occupied. Between working with Sevendust to finish up an album and supporting the staggering Alter Bridge on their “Walk the Sky” tour (a tour you don’t want to miss), 2020 is shaping up to be quite the action-packed year for Lowery.
